ON THE THEORY OF SOCIAL IMAGINARY OF CORNELIANUS KASTORIADIS AND THE PROBLEM OF SIGN<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstract.<\/strong> The prominent French social philosopher of Greek origin Kornelius Kastoriadis (1922\u20131997) is famous, probably, owing to his best known work \u201eThe Imaginary Institution of Society\u201c (L\u2019institution imaginaire de la soci\u00e8t\u00e8, 1975, Editions du Seuil, Paris), where he has presented the new theory of the functioning of social institution. It was an alternative in respect to Marxist as well as liberal paradigms and it is now one of the most in\ufb02 uential views to describe the social processes from non-conformist stances. Meanwhile, there was no attention drawn to the fact that Kastoriadis`s theory of social imaginary and processes of its institualization is based on the radically reconsidered linguistic and semiotic paradigms. A social institualization of imaginary is based on the fundamental relation between signi\ufb01 er and signi\ufb01 ed. The different manifestations of this relation determine processes of social development. Semiotic mechanisms have created continuity between past and future. These mechanisms also shaped the social space on institutional way. Describing these processes, Kastoriadis has created a new theory of sign \u2013 where the relations between the signi\ufb01 er and the signi\ufb01 ed are not predetermined, static, and synchronic (as in the Saussurian paradigm), but dynamic, diachronic, and creative. As it was noticed by Kastoriadis \u2013 \u201eLanguage, in its relation to signi\ufb01 cations, shows us how instituting society is constantly at work and also, in this particular case, how this work, which exists only as instituted, does not hamper the continued instituting activity of society\u2026 the other fundamental function of language \u2013 assuring every society\u2019s access to its own past\u201c. Thus, the signi\ufb01 cation in its both aspects \u2013 linguistic and semantic \u2013 is not a representation, but more creation ex nihilo (\u201eThe imaginary does not come from the image in the mirror or from the gaze of the other. Instead, the \u2018mirror\u2019 itself and its possibility, and the other as mirror, are the works of the imaginary, which is creation ex nihilo\u201c.). Correspondingly, the signi\ufb01 cation is considered not as a result, but as an endless and limitless process \u2013 magma: \u201cWhat is a signi\ufb01 cation? We can describe it only as an inde\ufb01 nite skein of interminable referrals to something other than (than what would appear to be stated directly). These other things can be both signi\ufb01 cations and non-signi\ufb01 cations – that to which signi\ufb01 cations relate or refer. But the lexicon of signi\ufb01 cations is always open; for the full signi\ufb01 cation of a word is everything that can be socially stated, thought, represented or done on the basis of this word. In other words, it can never be assigned determined limits\u2026 A magma is that from which one can extract (or in which one can construct) an inde\ufb01 nite number of ensemblist organizations but which can never be reconstituted (ideally) by a(\ufb01 nite or in\ufb01 nite) ensemblist composition of these organizations\u201d. The semiotic theory of Kastoriadis still remains bereft of linguistic elaboration. Such ideas are more common and acceptable in poetics, and the closest parallels to them were found in the theoretical works of the prominent Russian poet Osip Mandelshtam. However, the recent linguistic development has made it obvious that the everyday language activity presupposed complicated creative mechanisms of signi\ufb01 cations, and Kastoriadis\u2019s concept of permanently emerging meanings and references is more adequate than the old-fashioned semantic triangle.<\/p>\n

LINGUISTIC FEATURES RELATED TO STUTTERING EVENTS <\/strong>IN BULGARIAN CONVERSATIONAL SPEECH <\/strong><\/p>\n


Abstract.<\/strong> The present preliminary study is a research on the linguistic features related to stuttering events in Bulgarian adults, as there are no strong evidences for this relation in Bulgarian literature. Recently studies of this kind have not been focused on conversational speech. The present study is an observation on dialogues of \ufb01 ve Bulgarian adult who stutter from linguistic point of view. This investigation concerns four linguistic factors \u2013 (I) word stress, (II) syllable word position, (III) word class, and (IV) phone type. The results show that stuttering events in Bulgarian adults` speech occur more often on unstressed than on stressed syllables, on word-initial position, on content words and on consonants. <\/p>\n

Abstract.<\/strong> Travelling light, the latest work of Tove Jansson in Bulgarian translation, comes to illustrate her homogenous oeuvre with various readers and acts as a metaphor of the trip from Scandinavian traditions and Swedish in\ufb02 uence to the pain of Jansson\u2019s transformation into a national and international icon of artistry \u2013 of art, born by war traumas and the urge for revolt. Through the deceitful, super\ufb01 cial idyll she deconstructs the safety of family life and protests against the wars and social stereotypes by means of satire, apocalyptical disasters and time allegories, of the \ufb01 ctitious innocence of children\u2019s books full of psychology, melancholy and Nordic cold.<\/p>\n
