Here comes the question to what extent nowadays career consultants are familiar with modern media literacy. Skills for searching and overall evaluation of information become vital for career orientation. FUNCTIONS IN DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Abstract. The main objective is to obtain summary data about trends in the development of Bulgarian leaders&rsquo; communicative skills to serve as a basis for the elaboration of applied skill enhancement programs.&nbsp; Exercising leadership functions in any organization (irrespective of its character) is a process directly related to information exchange and interpersonal communication. The leader faces the problem of communication in a non-everyday public situation, what Public Speaking actually is as a communicative behavior technique in a public situation.&nbsp;The factors of Public Speaking (or effective public communication skills) are studied in the work of managers from various fields and a year-long observation is done of a special leaders&rsquo; group.&nbsp;Collected data is processed in STATGRAPHICS 5.0. Summary survey results are given in two types of tables: single-factor and two-factor dispersion analysis tables with examples.&nbsp;Results indicate that the studied leaders experience considerable difficulties communicating in a non-everyday public situation. On average, over half the managers admit having communicative problems in public situations. At the same time, over 30% categorically state they dedicate more than several hours to prepare their public appearances and 46% claim it takes them several days.&nbsp;The single-factor analysis shows that over 70% of respondents get questions from the audience after the end of their presentations. 48.1% believe their speaking skills are a decisive factor for their successful public statements, whereas 46.3% hesitate and find these skills &lsquo;sometimes&rsquo; determine their success. 45.5% report public speaking difficulties and more than half of all respondents account this is largely due to their fear of publicity. Another difficulty identified in the survey is the need to speak a foreign language, which is getting more and more important after Bulgaria&rsquo;s accession to the EU.&nbsp;Over 66% firmly state they would like to improve their skills through additional courses and other appropriate forms of training.&nbsp;Based on the survey, Public Speaking can certainly be said to be a most needed and definitely effective leadership skill.&nbsp;Skill or rather a set of skills that are taught most easily and effectively on the basis of accumulated humanitarian knowledge by &lsquo;acting&rsquo; means.&nbsp;This is the way it was in the time of Demosthenes and Cicero, and almost a thousand years later in the time of Aurelius Augustinus and St. Thomas `Aquinas, in the time of Robespier and Hastings, Labori and Churchill. So it is in today&rsquo;s high-tech era.&nbsp;It is a skill that involves man&rsquo;s complete and indivisible social nature. Because there can be no homo sapiens without homo ludens and no homo ludens without homo sapiens.
