HYSTERIA<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Silviya Serafimova<br \/>Bulgarian Academy of Sciences<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abstract.<\/strong> This paper analyzes the theory of provocative pessimism, as displayed by the Finnish philosopher Georg Henrik von Wright, which concerns, among many other issues, the justification of what he defines as environmental hysteria. By exploring the genealogy of the \u2018tragic contradiction\u2019 between knowledge and acting in von Wright\u2019s sense, I outline how some of the problems regarding the negative consequences of sustainable development find their similar interpretation in the works of some of the most prominent Norwegian philosophers and environmental activists such as Hartvig S\u00e6tra, Arne N\u00e6ss, Sigmund Kval\u00f8y and Gunnar Skirbekk. Regarding the impact of sustainable development on environmental politics, some concerns about the need of improving life quality, as represented by von Wright, Kval\u00f8y and Skirbekk are explored. contemporary situation of mass cinema consumption and the development of popular film critic imposed a dilution of some of the classical concepts such as socially engaged cinema and art cinema. If a film tells a social story and is shot in a naturalistic way, with main characters that come from the poor stratum, featuring non-professional or infamous actors \u2013 there is a big chance for this film to be defined as \u201cart cinema\u201d or as a replica of the films of the Dardenne brothers, who are now among the most noticeable socially engaged directors. Pop culture characterizes each film, that hasn\u2019t been created for commercial purpose, as an \u201cart film\u201d. This widespread distinction automatically splits the audience, according to its primal preferences and takes away its chance for a new and different experience.
