Abstract. The research reveals the ideas of Bulgarian and foreign educatorsreformers on child discipline in educational institutions presented in the journal “Svobodno Vaspitanie” (1922 – 1944). Their concepts on interrelationships between child’s freedom and discipline are shown. Critical attitudes of the authors towards stimulation and punishment, by which discipline is achieved, are clarified. Alternative strategies, forms and means, proposed by the authors for the prevention of unwanted behavior and the realization of discipline are presented. Authors’ views on child discipline stages are analysed.
