Absract. The article presents an educational program “Environment”, developed in the framework of a dissertation research on the place and role of non-formal education in enhancing geo-ecological education of young people. It highlights the role of information and visitor centres in the formation of environmental competences through activities and initiatives to celebrate international environmental dates. Participation in environmental initiatives in an informal setting activates cognitive perceptions, contributes to the manifestation of individual personal qualities, and leads to increasing the environmental awareness and formation of behavioural
patterns for nature conservation.
The methodological basis for the preparation of the programme is indicated, its structure is detailed, and prospects for its promotion among teachers are specified.
